Butterfly Eggs

Butterfly Eggs

The butterfly telescopes spawned today!  I raised the temperature and increased the photoperiod a little bit about a week ago in an attempt to trigger spawning.  I noticed some chasing, so I added a few spawning mops a few days ago, and found them covered in eggs today.  I’m fairly certain Minai is the female, but they could be fertilized by multiple males.  I think Luca, Clyde, and Benji were doing the majority of the chasing.  I am most interested in a Minai x Clyde cross, but I’ll take what I can get for now.  🙂  I had to do quite a bit of rearranging in the fish room to make space for more fry/eggs.  I have a few hundred or so ghost bristol fry right now that were taking up all the tank space!  I’ll do a Tank Talk fish room update video soon so you guys can see what’s been going on in the fish room lately.

Wow, congratulations on the eggs!!! I think Minai’s babies will be beautiful no matter who the male is. 🙂 I can’t wait to see them hatch. Very exciting!!!

Congrats!I can’t wait to see them grow 🙂

Are you going to sell any of these?

  • Jennie Posted January 10, 2023 5:31 am

It depends on how many of them turn out nice enough.:)

Thanks!I sure hope they’re fertilized. They should be, since I was seeing all of the males engage in the chasing… so hopefully!

what kind of filter are you using in the black tubs? 🙂

  • Ocean Truth Posted January 11, 2023 5:47 am

I believe she’s using sponge filters with a couple of bags of ceramic rings on top of them.

  • Jennie Posted January 11, 2023 9:00 am

Yep, plus a bag of crushed coral to keep the pH steady.

  • Pearlscale Posted January 11, 2023 3:28 pm

Is that really enough? 😮 i thought that you would have to have multiple filtration because they are so messy? 🙂

That is so exiting!!!!!!!!! Congrats!!! Can’t wait to see the video on them! 🙂

I’ve really come to believe that sponge filters are adequate filtration if you’re on top of water changes. If you can’t stay regimented with it, then power filters are definitely a must. Just my opinion though. 😉

Awesome! I was wondering if you’re worried about Clyde losing his black. I’ve read you have to keep them in a sunny place to help them out. I was interested in a panda and a black ranchu, but this has held me back….

Hi Jennie! How do you induce spawning? Been waiting for my ranchus to spawn. I have a couple of black ones I wish to breed. Can you please show me how. Thanks…

My ryunkin just had babies hatch. Someone told me that the babies around 2 weeks will get flukes. Is this true?

What do you do with them when they grow up?
